The other night while I was reading Harper her bedtime story, she climbed off the couch, walked into the kitchen, grabbed a banana off the counter, peeled it, and came back and sat down next to me to eat her snack while I finished the book. I looked at @dequanmjones and he had the same look on his face that I’m sure I had on mine: awe. Sometimes I look at her and I just can’t believe how big she is and how much she’s grown up. Just like I was the other night, I’m often in awe of how many small tasks she can do without any assistance at all. She is so independent and it’s clear in so many ways that she is becoming her own little person outside of us with her own preferences, relationships, and opinions (which she voices often 🙃). Who knew something as simple as a banana would symbolize how we’re moving into that next stage of parenting with Harper: the stage where she’s not a baby or even a toddler, but a kid.
