I've been feeling anxious lately for the first time in a long time. Post brain surgery, I got a good handle on my anxiety and honestly had an amazing 3-month period where I barely felt any symptoms at all, but, they're back, and I had to look within to figure out what they might be stemming from. The only thing I could come up with is idle time. The saying that an idle mind is the devil's playground is so true, and I'm realizing that it's important for me to keep myself busy. Living overseas, I often find myself with too much free time when my husband has away games or long basketball practices, even with my blog, business, and remote teaching job. Without friends and family around, there are days where I find myself thinking, "Well....what now?" after I've completed my to-do list, and it's during that unfilled time that anxious thoughts and feelings creep in. I've tried a lot of different things to fill that idle time, and I've discovered that the two that seem to be the most helpful...
