This piece was created in my studio in Kyoto and was inspired by the bamboo forest. I used a Japanese gilding technique called “Sunago,” which means falling gold. It’s a traditional technique I learned in Kyoto during my residency, and it uses bamboo to push gold through a filter, creating a gold rain.
The tube I used only works with the purest gold, 24K or 23K. The soft movements remind me of the light filtering through the bamboo leaves. The green depth in these tiny pieces reminds me of the depth of the bamboo forest.
It has a bit of soil from the forest embedded into the piece. I actually forgot to get soil the first time I went and was devastated, so thank you chatswithmax markymarc_ valbeegogirl for going back and securing my soil haha.
