Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says he still plans to cut nearly $160 million in federal funding to California if the state does not revoke commercial licenses held by undocumented truck and bus drivers.
Duffy made the announcement overnight in a post on X, escalating a growing dispute between federal officials, California regulators, and immigrant rights advocates.
The threat comes just days after the California Department of Motor Vehicles announced it is extending the timeline to cancel thousands of commercial driver’s licenses.
It is a move that advocates say offers temporary protection for drivers caught in the middle of the fight.
