China’s film market made a strong comeback in 2025, with annual box office revenue rising nearly 22 percent to 51.83 billion yuan (US$7.37 billion), driven largely by a surge in animated films.⁣ ⁣ Animation titles accounted for more than 48 percent of total box office revenue, led by the early-year phenomenon Ne Zha 2 and the recent success of Disney’s Zootopia 2.
