After John Wayne’s trip to Vietnam, he proudly wore a brass bracelet given to him by Montagnard Commander Major Kpa Doh—a symbol of friendship and respect from the II CTZ Mike Force. You can see Duke wearing this bracelet in several of his films.
He also wore a silver POW/MIA bracelet gifted by military widow Carole Hanson. Moved by her husband Stephen’s story—a helicopter pilot missing in Laos since 1967—Duke sent Carole a telegram expressing his tribute:
“Mrs. Hanson, I faithfully wear the steel wristband with your husband’s identification.”
John Wayne stayed in touch with Carole and her son for years, honoring the sacrifice and legacy of America’s heroes.
