Today we celebrate its 72nd anniversary — a film where Duke stepped beyond the classic Western mold into deeper character. Originally set to only produce, Duke took on the role of Hondo Lane himself after Glenn Ford declined. The original Stetson Duke wore in the film is now on display at John Wayne: An American Experience in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Please note: the museum will be closed today for Thanksgiving and will resume normal hours tomorrow.
