Did you know? Althea Neale Gibson was a groundbreaking American tennis player and professional golfer—one of the first Black athletes to break the color barrier in international tennis. In 1956, she became the first African American to win a Grand Slam title. A year later, she won at Wimbledon, where Queen Elizabeth II presented her the trophy.
