When you post “Happy New Year” all over social media—to your friends, your family, the world—do you really mean it? Do you truly want everyone to be happy in the new year? Because some of y’all only want certain people to be happy. In 2024, I saw a lot of anger and vitriol directed at different groups—not just in America, but across the world. And for what? Where did it get us? The beauty of a new year is that it’s global. Everyone gets to celebrate the turning of the calendar. There’s no elitism. No privilege that gets to celebrate more than another. Get mad if you want, but the truth is this: there are people our age who are no longer living. If you’re still here, breathing, and able to build a life for yourself, take that as a win.
