Zohran Mamdani, New York City’s first Muslim and South Asian mayor and its youngest in more than a century, was inaugurated in a public celebration outside City Hall on Thursday. During the ceremony, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez delivered opening remarks and Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont administered the oath of office. Other speakers, including performers and religious leaders, highlighted the ideas about fairness and affordability that Mamdani has championed.
