ran the uthealthhouston 10K w/ my sis-in-love yesterday (first timers!), and this one reminded me why i love running! not just for the finish line, but for everything you learn between the miles🙌🏽
6 things for 6 miles:
1️⃣ smile and relax your face. when my face scrunched up, my muscles tensed up too. relax, even when it’s tough. (makes for great race photos, too 😅).
2️⃣ double knot your shoes. trust me, it’s worth the extra 10 seconds before the start line. i stopped for both shoes, smh
3️⃣ start slightly slower than you think. adrenaline’s HIGH at the beginning; take advantage of it, but don't burn out early. save your energy for mile 4+.
4️⃣ take fuuuull advantage of the downhill. let gravity help you out and use it to reset your pace. those allen parkway hills are beasty😓
5️⃣ use the crowd for energy! feed off their cheers! it really does give you a boost.
