Washington State has the most diverse geography I've ever seen in one state. From rainforest to desert. Epic mountains to scablands. Alpine lakes to dramatic ocean cliffs. Makes it fascinating to explore.
This location is colloquially called one of Washington's 7 wonders. The images truly don't do it justice. This ancient dry waterfall bisecting Grand Coulee into upper and lower sections is mind-boggingly (is that even a word?) huge.
For context, when you stand from this vantage point, it's disorienting because your eyes can't focus on everything all at once. The cliffs are between 350 and 450 feet high, over 3 and a half miles wide (wider than the Grand Canyon, though not as deep), and the prevailing theory is that it once carried 10x more water than all of today's current rivers. Combined. My wife and I drove through the canyon area and it took us about 15 minutes just to drive from the entrance (see the last picture) to the lake in the first image. 🤯
