A large ridge of high pressure is set to develop across much of the lower 48 states over the next several days, bringing temperatures 20 to 35 degrees warmer than usual for this time of year. This warm weather will affect the mid-Atlantic and Southeast, with the warmest days expected on Wednesday and Thursday, when highs could reach the 60s and 70s. A new storm system is expected to arrive across the central and eastern United States from Thursday through Saturday. Severe thunderstorms are possible across the Mid-South, while rain showers are likely to develop across the Carolinas and the Southeast late Friday into Saturday. The system is expected to move out by Sunday, followed by sharply colder weather. Rainfall totals could reach 2 to 3 inches from East Tennessee down through Alabama into Mississippi, with 1 to 2 inches possible elsewhere.
