Officials said the Swiss bar where a New Year’s celebration turned deadly — killing 40 people — had not undergone a safety inspection since 2019.⁣ ⁣ Crans-Montana mayor Nicolas Feraud apologised during a news conference, announcing an immediate ban on sparkler candles inside venues after they were blamed for triggering the blaze.⁣ ⁣ “We are profoundly sorry,” Feraud said. “We had no indication that the required checks had not been carried out.”⁣ ⁣ The fire at the Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana on New Year’s Day also left 116 people injured, with more than two-thirds still hospitalized. Most of the victims were teenagers.⁣ ⁣ #Switzerland #CransMontana #Fire #NewYear
