When did you first learn about an HBCU? A new study from the United Negro College Fund(UNCF) shows that many high school students aren’t learning about HBCUs. Even though most teachers and counselors say they know about HBCUs, many students say they don’t. More than 60% students surveyed said their school counselors rarely or never talk to them about attending an HBCU or share information about those schools. 📍The study entitled “, Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges: Examining Teacher and School Counselor Strategies for College Readiness and HBCU Exposure for Students,” surveyed 146 students, teachers and counselors of all races. The study found this lack of awareness is especially common among Hispanic and white students, but nearly half of Black and multiracial students said the same.
