Current Loughborough student and swimmer _henry_hughes_ shares his remarkable journey ahead of competing at the Deaflympics this week. ๐โโ๏ธ
Diagnosed as deaf at two, Henry has gone from representing Australia at just 13 to now proudly competing for Great Britain deaflympicsgb. His move to Loughborough at 19 marked a new chapter, both as an athlete and as an advocate for deaf inclusion in sport.
As he prepares for Tokyo, Henryโs story continues to inspire the next generation of deaf athletes and highlights the importance of visibility, representation, and opportunity in performance sport.
Other Loughborough University athletes competing at the games include Charlie Denton (Tennis) and Evie Smith (Athletics). The 2025 Deaflympics will take place in Tokyo, Japan, from 15 - 26 November.
Wishing Henry, Evie and Charlie the very best as they take to the world stage. ๐ ๐ช
