A gem of a name for a gem of a gal 💎 The okapi calf born to mom Subira and dad Kapu in early September has officially been named Kimara. Her name means “precious jewel” and “rare beauty” in Swahili, a nod to her species’ native habitats in central Africa and especially fitting for this special little one. Kimara is the first okapi calf born right on habitat at the Zoo. Guests may spot this sweet girl bounding around when visiting the Lost Forest. #sandiegozoo #okapi #barcodebooties
