But why do toddlers suddenly seem to become picky?! 👇🏼
At sister’s one-year appointment, my pedi asked about her eating and I shared that some days look different than others, but overall she gets a good variety consistently!!
And her response was “it’s completely normal for toddlers to get picky at this age, so just keep offering”
While yes that’s true, it doesn’t mean we start only offering them what they “will” eat & let them control the menu! Here’s a few things that start happening around 12-15 months👇🏼
- they crave independence! food becomes one of the first places they can say “no” & feel in control (lean into it!)
- food neophobia increases, their lil brains are wired to be more cautious w unfamiliar foods and you’ll start seeing them “inspect” the food (help them explore!)
- oral motor skills are still developing! textures, flavors, temperatures, etc feel unpredictable & they are STILL learning how to eat (show them!!)
- milk and familiar foods feel safe & comfy, they ...
