In fact, Peter Buffett has said he didn’t even realize how wealthy his father was until his 20s, when he saw Warren Buffett’s name on the Forbes billionaire list and laughed about it with his mom.
That moment wasn’t accidental.
Warren Buffett intentionally raised his kids with almost no visible signs of wealth. They went to public school, rode the bus, lived in a middle-class Omaha neighborhood, and grew up in the same house Buffett bought in 1958.
No private jets.
No flashy homes.
No lifestyle inflation.
By the time Peter fully understood the scale of his father’s wealth, Buffett said his children were already “formed.” Their friends liked them for who they were, not their last name.
Even today, Warren Buffett still lives in that same Omaha home, worth roughly $1.37 million, modest by billionaire standards and intentional by design.
