for y'all who have been with ya man for a minute you will recall when i posted a variation from ponce's las folias weekly, often with a whole foods bag on my head or an inflatable horse inside my guitar
WELL
we're going again! this time with the ginormous set of variations on paganini's 24th caprice by george rochberg. eliot suggested that i learn some rochberg at the end of our time together, i really have come to love this huge, ultra-romantic, work.
why a post a variation a week? glad you asked!
a) content is king and it gives me content to post
b) breaking something overwhelming (an hour long piece of music), into smaller chunks (usually like 90 seconds of music or so), makes the task of learning something much, much easier.
c) having to get something, no matter how small, to a level that you're comfortable sharing with the world makes you work real hard.
