“I have returned”. We got to walk back through the door of NO return. We conquered the odds. We returned! We can hold space for the traumatic experience of our ancestors and simultaneously celebrate our return. Cape Coast is in the Central Region of Ghana. It’s castles were built in the 17th Century and the dungeons held far too many of our ancestors. I am in awe of those who said, “I will survive this so you will have a chance to conquer the world!” As we laid our hands on the walls in the dark, through tears we felt the vibrations of their hearts beating. A lifeline from us to them a subconscious recognition that we have arrived and yet have so far to go. We are their offspring. And I am so grateful.
