Local artist yalaford’s geometric masterpieces have covered numerous Tampa Bay walls, an IndyCar, museums, and more. A first-generation Jamaican American artist, Ya La’Ford hopes that viewers take away a universal language from her work. One that makes you think about how to affect change and is a catalyst that makes you want to empower all those around you. Her concept “Badge of Justice” was recently chosen for the “Courageous 12” monument in stpetefl. The memorial will honor the 12 Black police officers who fought, sued, and then won a discrimination lawsuit against the St. Petersburg Police Department over 50 years ago.
