Former NJ Governor and Senator Richard Codey, who passed away on January 11, 2026, was more than a public servant—he was a lifelong champion of youth sports. For over 25 years, he coached West Orange basketball, leading teams like the AAU 14-and-under West Orange Knights to a national championship in 2019 and mentoring players who went on to play professionally, including Kyrie Irving. Despite his busy political career, Codey always made time to coach, teaching kids both basketball and life lessons. His legacy is forever remembered at the Richard J.
