The rush of targeted cancer drugs and DNA sequencing advances has created a deluge of information far too vast for physicians to track. So Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center brought together a team of cancer biologists and software engineers to create a database. The goal? Allow users to leverage the cancer genome of a patient’s tumor to guide treatment. The groundbreaking result was OncoKB, the first and only cancer knowledge base to receive partial recognition from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Number 27 on our #MIP2022 list, OncoKB allows clinical oncologists and molecular pathologists to access up-to-date, accurate treatment information, while understanding which genetic mutations may predict sensitivity or resistance to a particular drug.
