(But not too bright a light—many frogs, toads, and salamanders are nocturnal! 😎) One of our most important roles as stewards of this place is to monitor and study vulnerable species to understand their greatest threats—and then use science-based management practices to protect them. Well, the first step is knowing where things stand today! In 2023, Olympic wrapped up a three-year project where park scientists and technicians hiked hundreds of miles to collect water samples across the park—from creeks near sea level up to high-elevation mountain lakes.
