marlboru_ is riding around the world, casually winning ultras on route... "The Bentang Jawa (bentangjawa) is a 1500km ultra race across Jawa, Indonesia. I led it from the start and held on to the finish, beating the previous course record in a time of 85 hours. A lot of people said I didn't sleep, but I slept quite a lot (in ultra standards) but napping in short stints here and there, especially during the hottest part of the day instead of the night. The highlight was climbing Mt Bromo, one of the volcanoes in east Jawa, during the witching hour of the night. It was about 5 degrees at the top at 2500m. I know to you that sounds like normal winter, but if you're acclimatised to Asia, well, you know what it would be like! The race is one of few of its kind in this part of the world and truly showcased the beauty of the island. Definitely a race for more people to set their eyes on in the future.
