Before Rosa Parks, there was 15-year-old Claudette Colvin. She helped end racial segregation in the US by refusing to give up her bus seat to a white person in 1955. Colvin was living in Montgomery, Alabama, and her protest led to her being arrested. It happened nine months before the arrest of Rosa Parks, who also famously refused to give her bus seat to a white person - which eventually led to a Supreme Court decision that outlawed such racial discrimination. She has now died aged 86, with the Claudette Colvin Legacy Foundation saying she leaves behind a "legacy of courage".
