Happy second landiversary to our Perseverance rover, which touched down on the surface of Mars Saturday, Feb. 18, 2021. Since arriving at Jezero Crater, Perseverance has been examining geologic features and collecting samples of the Red Planet. It even created the first sample depot on another world.
Later missions plan to return these samples to Earth, where scientists would study them with powerful lab equipment to search for signs of ancient microbial life and better understand the processes that shaped the surface of Mars.
This weekend marks the beginning of Perseverance’s third year at Jezero Crater. There, it will continue the search for rocks worth studying back on Earth.
