I get sooo many questions about turf grass so here’s a quick breakdown:
When I say “turf grass”, I am referring to non-native grasses (like Kentucky blue grass) that suck up water and are often treated with lots of harmful chemicals that damage the ecosystem. In areas like LA that are in a perpetual drought, having turf grass is very harmful to the environment, yet nearly every wealthy neighborhood is filled with unused, manicured, green front lawns…

This is NOT it people and there are plenty of other ground cover options for your lawns that are still functional for recreation but more beneficial to the environment (see below).

Native California “No Mow”
Creeping thyme
Vines (ivy or passion vine for example)
*Even gravel or artificial grass isn’t as bad in my opinion
