This evening the Sacramento City Council presented the Sacramento History Museum with a proclamation for our 40 years of service as an institution in Sacramento, California. On August 3, 1985, a new museum opened at the corner of Front and I Streets in Old Sacramento. This museum, housed in a reconstruction of Sacramento’s City Hall & Waterworks building originally constructed at the site in 1854, showcases the history of Sacramento, California. The Sacramento History Museum has gone by a few names over the last 40 years. When it opened in 1985, the Museum began as the Sacramento History Center before it partnered in 1993 with the Sacramento Science Center. Together, the two institutions became the Sacramento Museum of History, Science, and Technology or as it was also called, the Discovery Museum.
