“How long? Not long. Because you shall reap what you sow.”
On this day, Morehouse College honors the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ’48, famed alumnus, civil rights leader, and moral voice of a generation. Those words were delivered in March 1965 at the culmination of the Selma to Montgomery marches, as Dr. King stood on the steps of the Alabama State Capitol and addressed a nation still wrestling with justice, democracy, and the right to vote.
In his speech, “How Long? Not Long,” Dr. King affirmed the resolve of a movement unwilling to retreat in the face of resistance— grounded in faith, sustained by sacrifice, and propelled by an unyielding belief in progress. Today, we reflect on that legacy and the enduring charge it places before us to move forward with courage and conviction.
