A 2011 study published in the journal Psychological Science found that women were more attracted when they weren't sure how the guy felt about them. Part of it is that when a woman is unclear about a man's feelings, she will wonder about them, dwell on the guy, and ultimately spend more time thinking about him.⁠ ⁠ An experiment at the University of Virginia asked women to view what they thought were real Facebook profiles of men. They believed the research was about whether Facebook could work as a dating site. Some women were told the men they'd seen were guys who liked them; some heard that the guys thought they were average, and some were told the men could feel either interested or meh about them, so they didn't know the level of attraction.
