Meet Kayden Knuckey, Fighting Bees superfan and honorary @fightingbeesfb team captain!
As honorary captain, on Sept. 17, Kayden joined the team on center field for the coin toss, got a special shout-out from the press box and joined the team on the sidelines. The coaching staff and team also signed a football for Kayden, which hasn’t left his side since.
Kayden was born with spina bifida but is just like any other five-year-old who loves to watch and play sports. In April, Kayden attended the Quad Cities Adaptive Sports Showcase at St. Ambrose.
“His eyes just lit up, his jaw was on the floor,” Amy Knuckey, Kayden’s grandma, said. “It was his first time seeing other people in wheelchairs playing sports."
At the event Kayden formed a special bond with management student and Fighting Bees offensive lineman Brian Ciciura ’23. Ciciura stayed in touch with Kayden and his family over the summer and coordinated with head coach Vince Fillipp to plan a special moment for Kayden this fall.
