According to the Oglala Sioux Tribe, three Oglala Lakota men are currently being held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Oglala Sioux Tribal President Frank Star Comes Out says federal officials informed the Tribe that additional information about the detainees — including conditions related to their potential release — would only be made available if the Tribe entered into an immigration enforcement agreement with ICE and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The Tribe has publicly rejected that proposal. In a statement, President Star Comes Out said the Oglala Sioux Tribe would not enter any agreement that would authorize, or make it easier for, ICE or DHS to operate on tribal land or arrest tribal members, emphasizing that the Tribe will not compromise tribal sovereignty in exchange for information or cooperation.
