The University of Texas and The University of Oklahoma announced this past week that they will not renew their grant of rights agreement with the Big 12. This means that when their current agreement ends in 2025, they will be leaving the conference and heading for the SEC.
SEC schools received between $5 million and $9 million more in conference distributions than Big 12 schools did in 2019-20 and are projected to make about $20 million more when the SEC’s new media rights deal kicks in in 2024. This means that the big move by these two schools is likely financially motivated.
