JK Rowling has signed a petition against Wes Streeting’s upcoming NHS puberty blocker trial and branded it “an unethical experiment on children who can’t give meaningful consent”. The author shared her support for the petition, titled ‘Cancel the clinical trial into puberty blockers & safeguard vulnerable children’, through sharing it to X with her comments. At the time of writing, it has been signed by almost 105K people. The £10 million trial was commissioned in November in the wake of the Cass Report and the government’s ban on puberty blockers for trans youth in the UK. It will assess the risks and benefits of puberty blockers for those experiencing gender dysphoria, with researchers monitoring impacts on bone density, brain development, mental health and overall wellbeing. Initial findings are expected in about four years. Tap the link in our bio for more 📷 Getty #jkrowling #wesstreeting #lgbtqnews
