Making the decision to try for a natural birth with no medication is a personal one. It is my belief that our bodies are created to do this unbelievable, almost inconceivable, thing called birth. As someone who has always worked with their body, this is the ultimate trust game. Turning my mind off and allowing my body to do the work it’s naturally meant to do is the most difficult thing I’ve ever done in my life. Running towards pain is unnatural. But with the knowledge that each contraction, each wave of pain, was bringing my baby closer to me kept me motivated to keep moving - even when I felt like I absolutely couldn’t. To go through this journey, I needed the right team in place: my phenomenal doctors, magical doula, and attentive Husband were all by my side. I felt supported, protected, and safe.
