📸: jennytranphoto - By 1900 no cemeteries were permitted in city limits due to San Francisco's rapid growth. Many graves were relocated to neighboring towns like Colma, CA which were designated for cemeteries. However, it's said that some were moved, and buildings were placed on top of existing graves. During a renovation in 1993, over 700 graves were discovered on the site, originally the location of the Golden Gate Cemetery. These graves were moved; however, experts expect there to be thousands more still under the Museum. legionofhonor
