have a nice day in honor of world mental health day but also because i don't think i'll ever throw this bag away • i've struggled with depression since the summer before my junior year in high school. my sophomore year in galvy was the worst headspace i've ever been in. i was considering giving up softball because of how toxic the experience was. suicidal jokes were ongoing among my teammates + i. + i always wore sunglasses at practice because i felt like everyone could see the deadness in my eyes. i don't think many people understand the student-athlete mindset. many of us grew up having our confidence constantly beat down. by coaches, family, friends, whatever. what that teaches is that to be good, and to be happy with our performance we have to impress others with our performance first. that reinforces a terrible mindset. we stop playing because it becomes about the people who want to see us improve rather than why we wanted to play in the beginning. most of you know that i t...
