As Black History Month comes to a close, let's take time to celebrate the Black medical professionals paving the way for health care equity. Dr. Deirdre Cooper Owens is the Director of the Humanities in Medicine Program at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, and the Charles and Linda Wilson Professor in the History of Medicine as well!
Dr. Owens has dedicated her studies in part to the discussion of Black experiences and medical racism in medicine; she goes into depth about this topic in her first book Medical Bondage: Race, Gender and the Origins of American Gynecology. Her work has had a significant impact in the discussion of medical racism.
