On my latest trip to Dhikala, we came across the current Parwali, crossing this river, the sky was next to crimson, and made her look like she was emerging from fire: freshly forged and divinely constructed.
In photography and in life, it’s much easier to walk the well-trodden path because people have gone that way before and there is some kind of roadmap. But for those who are starting on an altogether new path, there are all kinds of unforeseen difficulties that might come in the way. Nothing scares us more — or any creature, for that matter — than an uncertain path with unforeseeable difficulties. It’s like walking in an unknown dark room, having no idea how big the room is, or how dark, or who might be lurking in there to pounce.
We humans, like most animals, are averse to such risks. But we need to dare. We need to fight. And we need to force our way through. In order to stand out, we have to walk...
