Happy Birthday to PinnaclesNPS! 🥳 118 years ago today, President Theodore Roosevelt designated Pinnacles as a national monument. Here are some fun facts to celebrate its birthday and #FunFactFriday: ✍️ It became a national park in 2013 when President Barack Obama signed the designation into law. 🌋 The park is named for its rocky “pinnacles” that were formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago. This same activity also created the park's famous talus caves. 🦅 Pinnacles’ rugged terrain provides ideal breeding habitat for birds of prey. The park is home to golden eagles, California condors, and prairie falcons. 🪾 In 2001, National Park Trust accepted the donation of the Bear Valley School, a one-room schoolhouse signficant to the community's history, and donated it to the park.
