Before Dominique Wells (domowells) became the most coveted merch designer in sports, she worked at the Department of Energy, built a parallel life as a touring DJ, and later landed a gig at Spotify, where she worked her way up the ladder to become the lead if Black Music Editorial. But over time, she felt the job got smaller and the politics got louder and found she had less autonomy. So she quit and launched Dead Dirt, her design studio and one-woman creative agency, in 2023. What began as designing clothes for herself quickly grew into a seven-figure business, with capsule collections worn by athletes like Natasha Cloud and Sydney Colson. Today, she serves as washingtonspirit’s first-ever creative director. Above and at the link in our bio, Wells tells The Cut how she gets it done. #HowIGetItDone
