11 million pounds. Four miles. 12 hours.
These are what the numbers look like for transporting a stacked Moon rocket from the Vehicle Assembly Building to Launchpad 39B. NASAKennedy teams are targeting no earlier than 7am ET (1200 UTC) on Saturday, Jan. 17 to move the Artemis II vehicle to its last stop on planet Earth.
Image description: All work platforms are retracted from around NASA’s Artemis II SLS (Space Launch System) rocket and Orion spacecraft, secured to the mobile launcher, inside the Vehicle Assembly Building on Friday, Jan. 16, 2026, in preparation for rollout to Launch Complex 39B at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The rocket consists of an orange cylindrical core stage that stands in between two white solid rocket boosters. The perspective of the image is from below the rocket looking up.
