Today was icewine harvest day!
Our first and second-year winery and viticulture students, along with faculty, braved the cold to handpick Vidal grapes in celebration of one of Niagara’s sweetest traditions. They were joined by students from hospitality and brewing programs, coming together across disciplines for what is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
This year marked Niagara College’s 25th icewine harvest. Since 2000, more than 600 students have taken part in this chilly, early-morning rite of passage.
And the grapes don’t stop at icewine. Some are headed to our brewmaster program, where they’re being transformed into icewine beer. Students will debut the brew, made from last year’s harvest, at this weekend’s Niagara Icewine Festival niagarawinefest in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Be sure to keep an eye out for the chchtv segment capturing all the action. 🍇❄️
