January 16th is National Book Publishers Day! This day recognizes those who bring books to life through publishing by editing, creating, printing, and distributing them for readers. For today, Jared letterpress printed two large halftones from the California State Printing Office’s book binding rooms in 1914. Halftones were used to introduce photography in newspapers and books starting in the late 1880s. The pictures in halftones are broken into a series of equally spaced dots of varying size.
