“Tunnel vision” versus awareness: One common lament that I hear from many coaches and goaltender development professionals is that there is a tremendous amount of athletic talent and technical skill with goaltenders, but the ability to read the play is sometimes lacking. The reason for the spin is to simulate and being able to identify times where players are not looking at the net, i.e. scrums on the wall or having their back turned to the net.
