Unfortunately, the American energy and solar industry is floundering or barely there – especially in the consumer market segment. All the momentum is from the East, particularly from Shenzhen. President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill dramatically accelerates the elimination of tax credits for renewable energy. The Chinese government, on the other hand, has gone all-in on solar, battery, wind, and hydroelectric technologies. Simultaneously, LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery production has gone from a modest market share in 2010 to around 94% of global capacity. As a result, Chinese manufacturers, such as BYD and CATL, have risen to international dominance. What we have are two countries with very different priorities.
