The mayor of the City of Avenal denied allegations of Brown Act violations, on Monday, Jan 12. following a lawsuit filed by the Kings County District Attorney's Office.
"I feel that we're 100% sure that we haven't violated any Brown Act," Avenal Mayor Alvaro Preciado said.
The lawsuit, filed on Dec. 19, claims the city council made decisions about a proposed fire department during closed session and without public inclusion.
Preciado refuted these claims, stating all discussions were held in open sessions and all decisions were communicated with the public.
“I know what it what it takes to be transparent and do the right thing for our community," Preciado said. "And not take a personal, or have our own personal, agenda, which is not beneficial to most communities.”
He suggested the lawsuit was motivated by financial and personal gain.
