Field Notes Friday? Yes please! In February, Erin, a member of our staff, visited our projects in South Asia. She wrote this after a day on the field with Smriti, our international partner in the slums. “Death and darkness hang heavy in the air here. The city wallows in a permanent cloud of smog. Trash lines the brown and dirty streets. People in rags pull rickshaws. Others wear bright colored robes and walk about as if nothing is amiss. Crows gather overhead cawing raucously and horns blare overwhelming. It is an assault on the senses. And then Smriti walks confidently into the fray. She has no fear and seems unaffected by her surroundings. She moves through this city like a whirlwind, kurta billowing, small frame darting. Off to do His work. Off to care for the unloved and untouchable. The darkness cows at her coming. Moments of light push through. God's grace.” #fieldnotesfriday
